This position is housed in our Civil Division which is responsible for concrete, asphalt paving, and structural scopes of work on construction projects such as highways, bridges, and culverts.  The Helm Group owns and operates several quarries and asphalt plants in the region.  This role is located in our Freeport, IL office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop/modify HMA mix designs meeting all current specifications of Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
  • Submit all required documentation to IDOT/various customer agencies.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze HMA laboratory volumetric results and determine adjustments to blend settings to maintain conformance to all IDOT specifications.
  • Determine/modify rolling patterns, paver speed, production temperature, etc. to achieve in-place mat density meeting agency requirements.
  • Direct and monitor production of FRAP, ordering of asphalt binder, and hauling of imported aggregates for use in HMA production.
  • Communicate with IDOT (or other customer agency representatives) regarding HMA quality results, production plans, potential proposed plan/specification changes, and various other details of the paving work.
  • Collaborate with aggregate mining, HMA plant, and QC technician personnel to ensure all production/work is performed safely, efficiently, and to expected quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Material Science or:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the design and production of HMA.

Salary & Benefits

Range: $120,000-$160,000 annually

Final salary determination based on relevant experience and qualifications.
